East Herts Grant -
Meet and Eat in Much Hadham

Meet and Eat brings people together to make friends and to have fun cooking and eating a meal together.

The group in Much Hadham was a lovely group of ladies who came together to meet. One of the participants was younger and not such a confident cook, so was up for learning some cooking skills. One week she bought her mother along who was here on holiday from Eastern Europe, we had fun trying to communicate despite the language barrier, but food can be a good way of communicating!

Participants from local carer agencies and social prescribers attended and it is through this course that I went on to meeting the social prescribers at Hoddesdon and running classes for them too.

South Oxhey Day Care Centre

We supported the local family centre offering nutrition and cooking advice, particularly during lock down.

We worked with Social Prescribers running nutrition/weight management classes, supporting the local Ascend Healthy Hub and worked with the local day centre helping to make small cooking changes to improve people’s lives. Working with local Schools to support families to support easy meals to be made and supporting a range of cultures. Not only this, but the grant helped support local family centres to cook easy and healthy meals and South Oxhey Day centre to encourage healthy meals to be made and enjoyed.

Watford Grants: Carers in Herts

Wise About Food ran a course to support their carers in learning to cook some healthy meals and to take time out from caring and have a fun time for themselves.

Watford Grants: Meet and Eat in Various Watford Community Housing schemes

Working with Watford Community Housing residents we ran Meet and Eat Groups helping those with mobility issues.

Watford Grants: Squirrels Nursery

Spending a day taking stock of how the nursery managed its mealtimes and how to support on food waste and ways to make changes.

Assura Community Grant - Hoddeson and Broxbourne Primary Care Network

This grant was obtained via Hoddesdon and Broxbourne PCN to work with their patients in supporting them in areas that they were having difficulties, e.g. loneliness, mental health or dealing with the loss of a partner.

One Housing

At One Housing, we wanted to target four different areas with particular focus on mental health and homelessness.

The aim to support groups of people in flats who did not get the chance to meet other residents and to provide a space where they could make friends and learn some healthy nutritious meals. Cooking healthy meals is key for everyone as well as having the opportunity to meet other people and to share ideas and experiences.

Large Hertfordshire Community  Fund Grant

Being awarded this grant meant that Sarah could reach out to a wide variety of groups like, Homestart and Squirrels Nursery.

Homestart works with some very vulnerable families and where cooking healthy meals might not be the priority. Sarah provided sessions so that each mum had their own workstation with an induction cooker and could prepare and cook their own meals. At the end of each session, everyone sat down to enjoy the meal together.

If you have Workshops, Classes or Groups that could be beneficial to your community or organisation, please get in touch to discuss one of our suggested workshops or to discuss the needs of the people you would like to help and we can apply for the grants necessary to make it happen.
